Qualifications and Training
I have a diploma in therapeutic counselling based on an integrative approach. This means that I am able to draw upon a number of theories depending on what is most relevant for my client.
I also have a BSc Hons in Social Work specialising in fostering. In addition to this I also trained as an Intermediary for NORCAP, a charity that was set up to assist and support adults affected by adoption (adoptee/birth parent/adopter).
Following on from this I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of why we relate to others the way we do, so I did some training devised by Dan Hughes based on attachment theory and how our life experiences particularly in early childhood, impact upon us and affect how we relate to, and connect with, others throughout our lives.
I have done training courses that provide me with an understanding of things like ADHD, self-harming, autism and depression. And as a Counsellor I try to offer a personal and flexible approach by working with my clients on the things that they bring to our sessions that are causing them distress and disruption.
